Mussorgsky I pictures at an exhibition
(Rach u. Mussorgsky arr. FQ/G. Gruzman)

The exciting history of the Pictures at an Exhibition and Études-Tableaux from piano solo to orchestral works culminates in the phenomenal diversity of sounds of the Fauré Quartet. As if bringing out the best of a solo piano and a large orchestra, the Fauré Quartet, located in between those two extremes, seems to achieve the best of both worlds. With their love of experimentation the four astonishing musicians call the most important stages their home.

Veronika Eberle and Nils Mönkemeyer, both world stars on their instruments, have enjoyed many years of intense artistic friendship. They share an unquenchable curiosity to explore new musical paths. In their new duo programme, they connect space and time, music from the Middle Ages and Baroque era with works by Mozart, Bartók and Kurtág: Hildegard von Bingen’s “Visions of Fire” are combined with Kurtág’s “Signs, Games and Messages”; duets by Mozart and Bartók are played together with Johann Sebastian Bach’s Canon Triplex, known from Elias Gottlieb Haussmann’s famous portrait.
By moving away from conventional perspectives, changing the angle of vision and creating new contexts and transitions, the two musicians make it possible to hear familiar works with new ears.
