Biography as PDF: DE
Two of the best percussionists of their generation and a perfectly coordinated duo – they are Victor Kraus and Martin Frink.
The two musicians studied with Isao Nakamura at the University of Music of Karlsruhe. After graduating with honours, they specialized as a chamber music duo with Emmanuel Séjourné at the Conservatoire de Strasbourg. With the creation of KrausFrink Percussion in 2006, they launched an ensemble unique in its kind: an impressive versatility, great musicality, virtuosic technique and an unrestrained desire to play music are the trademarks of the duo. Classical recitals, concerts with orchestra, theatre projects with dance and choreography, the musical rendering of live silent movies are a part of their metier, as well as workshops and master classes.
KrausFrink has already performed recitals at numerous European festivals and at the Berliner Philharmonie. During the last season, the duo played at the Kölner Philharmonie (“Tripclubbing”), at the Konzerthaus Berlin (“2 x hören”) and at the Audi Sommerkonzerte (Audi Summer Concerts) in Ingolstadt. The End of Season party 2015 at the Philharmonie Luxembourg featured a drum act by the duo and the “Wheelharmony“ project, a collaboration between the world BMX champion Viki Gómez and a live string quartet, under the artistic direction of KrausFrink.
Contemporary music and close collaboration with composers has always been especially important to the duo. In 2008 the Hungarian composer Márton Illés dedicated his composition “Torso VII” to them. The French composer Philippe Manoury composed for KrausFrink a double concerto for two percussionists and orchestra, the contract being supported by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation. Another very special project had its premiere in the spring of 2014: “METATHESIS”, a show for two percusionnists and two dancers, based on a concept by Victor Kraus and on music by Emmanuel Séjourné. A unique combination of music, dance and theatre which symbolizes the understanding of the Other through a change of roles between the musicians and the dancers.
In 2009, KrausFrink presented its first live musical rendering of silent movies at the festival DAS FEST in Karlsruhe. Since then, the duo has become an annual guest performer at the well-known Karlsruher Stummfilmtage (Karlsruhe Silent Movie Days) and has accompanied movies like “Un chapeau de paille d’Italie” de René Clair or “Der Student von Prag” amongst others. Further invitations to festivals in Eindhoven, Luxembourg, Anères and Nürnberg have followed.
The duo’s workshop concept “Silent Movie 21”, for students from the age of 15 and based on improvisation and musical rendering of silent movies, has also been very successful and the workshops have been organized more than once.
The movie “Journey Into The Open” (2010) produced by the Vogl & Hentschel Filmatelier München, and featuring music composed and played by KrausFrink, received awards from both the Beethovenfest Bonn and the Deutscher Musikrat (the German Music Council).
KrausFrink’s debut CD “Eat This” was released by the label Perc.Pro in the autumn of 2012.
